Virus Writers Take Advantage of Tsunami |
|
Posted by: Admin on Tuesday, January 18, 2005 - 08:41 PM |
It looks like a plea for donations for tsunami relief, but it's really a virus. That's just too low for words.
"Virus experts at Sophos have discovered a mass-mailing worm that poses as a plea for donations to help with the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster.
"The W32/VBSun-A worm spreads via email, tempting innocent users into clicking onto its malicious attachment by pretending to be information about how to donate to a tsunami relief effort. However, running the attached file will not only forward the virus to other internet users but can also initiate a denial-of-service attack against a German hacking website."

However, this does not directly affect end users - although the worm infects web sites, it does not infect computers used to view these sites.

Polyglot virus is Xmas party pooper |
|
Posted by: Admin on Friday, December 17, 2004 - 03:57 PM |
An email worm which poses as a Christmas greeting began spreading widely yesterday. Zafi-D comes as an infectious attachment to emails written in a variety of different languages, including English, Spanish, Russian, Swedish and Hungarian. Anti-virus firms believe the worm was created in Hungary.
Typically infected emails have subject lines such as 'FW: Merry Christmas', 'Happy HollyDays!' and 'Feliz Navidad!'. Embedded inside each email is a crude animated GIF graphic of two 'smiley' faces. The attachment name is made up of the word "postcard" in the respective language, random numbers and the extension .pif, .cmd, .bat, or .com. Windows users who open the attached file get infected.
